• Ensuring your safety and the safety of others involved in the emergency

2. Assessing the Incident and Patient
Understanding the initial steps of assessment:

• How to check if the casualty is conscious or unconscious

• Recognizing the signs of cardiac arrest

3. DRSABCD Check and Sending for Help
This foundational system guides responders through the steps:

• D – Danger: Check for hazards

• R – Response: Check if the casualty responds

• S – Send for help: Call emergency services

• A – Airway: Ensure the airway is open

• B – Breathing: Check for normal breathing

• C – Circulation: Look for signs of pulse

• D – Defibrillation: Use the AED

4. Defibrillation & Heart Rhythms
Understanding the technology behind AEDs:

• Recognising abnormal heart rhythms (e.g., Ventricular Fibrillation)

• Understanding how an AED delivers the correct shock to restore normal rhythm

5. CPR and AED Use on a Casualty
Practical training on how to perform CPR in conjunction with AED:

• CPR for adults and children

• Using the AED correctly, including electrode pad placement

6. General Guidelines for Using an AED
Key guidelines to ensure proper AED usage:

• Preparing the casualty for defibrillation

• How to follow the AED’s instructions

• Understanding the shock cycle and when to continue or pause CPR

7. Recording Information & Handover to Emergency Services

• Recording vital information about the incident

• Sample report forms for incidents involving AED use

• How to handover to emergency responders

Course Delivery

Our AED training course runs for 3-4 hours, providing an in-depth understanding of the key elements required to safely and effectively use an AED. The training is hands-on, ensuring participants gain practical experience in real-life scenarios.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion. This certification is typically valid for 3 years, after which it is recommended to undergo refresher training to keep skills up to date.
